Humane Happenings Week of 9/25/16

Peggy
Teenage felines Henry and Vulcan, together with little Peggy, a very young three-legged white Siamese-mix kitten with an inquisitive personality and big bright blue eyes, are now the newest residents of the Cool Cat Neighborhood at Desert Haven Animal Refuge. Desert Haven is owned and operated by the Sierra County Humane Society, the non-profit animal welfare organization that serves this area of New Mexico.  Henry, Vulcan and Peggy arrived with their own sad story. But at Desert Haven, they are finally safe, well-cared for, and loved. That is what Desert Haven is all about.

Peggy
Three-legged little Peggy was born under a shed about eight weeks ago. When rescued a couple of weeks ago, neither her mother nor her siblings could be found. There was “no place at the Inn” at the time - (inside the Cool Cat Neighborhood) - but how could we push away the helpless little one? It’s hard enough for a tiny kitty to survive all alone, but a three-legged one has to overcome even more obstacles.  Among other life-threatening hurdles, a three-legged feline certainly can’t climb a tree, for example, to run away from an aggressive dog, or a hungry coyote - or even a heart-less human.

Interested in learning more about the newest little rescues at Desert Haven?  Check-out our Petfinder Page and also our Facebook  page at www.Facebook.com/DesertHavenAnimalRefuge.  These last few weeks, we have added to our Adopt-a-Pet Referral list a few little dogs in need of a new home: young adult male Shi-tzu, a very young Boxer puppy and a small terrier.

Our Desert Haven team continues to invite kind-hearted individuals willing and able to help us socialize and walk-on-a-leash several of our newest small canine rescues. These very sweet young dogs are still very shy from the ordeal they went through before their rescue at the sanctuary. They need special individual attention from good-hearted individuals willing to help. Call us at 575-894-2639 or e-mail us at weR4pets@gmail.com for more information.  Morning animal care at Desert Haven includes dog walking. It is currently handled between the hours of 7:30 AM and 10:30 AM.  With the days getting shorter, Daily animal care will soon start at 8 AM.  Visit our web site at www.
