Desert Haven Animal Refuge, Sierra County no-kill domestic sanctuary, is now home to several newly arrived little rescues now ready for adoption. There is Jewel, a young black & tan Pomeranian with a great personality. There is well-mannered 5 years old Bobby, a tan & white cocker spaniel anxious to become someone’s beloved companion again. Two little ones came to us together: 8 months old Cadi is a red with black highlights Terrier-Chihuahua and her buddy -5 lbs Fergie - is also a Chihuahua.

One-and-a-half year old Boxer - Foxy Girl - was rescued at the sanctuary at around this time last year. Although a gorgeous and loving little girl-dog who would make a wonderful family companion, Foxy Girl is still waiting for her forever home.

Shadow is a loving five years old female black lab who has resided at the sanctuary since her rescue in 2007. To facilitate Shadow’s adoption, Jim Seery, a friend of Desert Haven and returning work camper, is covering half of her adoption fee. Shadow is sterilized and her shots are up-to-date.

This week, we wish to thank local residents Bill & Mary Jane Clellan and Mary Roden who answered our plea and donated enough canned dog food to allow us to keep our little fur-kids supplied for a little while longer this winter. Canned dog and cat food are two major staples in our pet-food pantries and we appreciate everyone who helps us keep our furry and feather dependents well fed. We also thank the local and out-of-town animal loving folks who send monetary contributions either directly to Desert Haven or to the Sierra County Humane Society & Desert Haven account at Horsin’ Around Feed & Tack in T or C. The donated funds deposited in our account at the feed store allow us to purchase alfalfa, grains and seeds for our small army of rescued guinea pigs, rabbits, doves, peacocks, roosters and hens. Any pet food contribution you wish to make can be dropped-off at P&C Thrift Shoppe during business hours - Wed through Sat from 11AM to 4 PM. You are also welcome to bring your in-kind or monetary contributions to the sanctuary on Tuesdays, when it is open to visitors.

Volunteer opportunities are always available at Desert Haven and P&C Thrift Shoppe. Walking a DHAR dog or two of your choice one or more mornings a week can be a fun way for anyone to stay fit or get in shape. Contact us at 575-894-2639 or 813-716-2033.
