Sign the petition to keep "Blue" free!

Save "Blue" by making him the official EB community dog!
By Janice Connor
Owner; Butte General Store and Marina

If you are ever in the Elephant Butte area, you are probably familiar with the “Unofficial” Community dog named Blue. For the last six years, Blue has greeted people initially at a local restaurant, Casa Taco. After the owner became ill and needed to close his business down for the winter, Blue made his way to the Butte General Store to continue meeting and greeting people who visited him at the store. For the past year, the community of Elephant Butte has rallied together to take care of Blue’s needs to keep him safe and healthy. Someone now is trying to have Blue’s freedom revoked and keeps harassing the City Officials of Elephant Butte to have him put in the pound. She has even gone as far as threatening to kill him if ever he is seen wondering alone. This loving, gentle dog would never hurt anyone and has been known to protect many people and other pets. By the signing the petition, you can help us keep Blue free and make him the OFFICIAL EB Community dog. If you are unable to come in to our store to sign the actual petition, please add your comment at the bottom of this post with your full name. This way, the judge will know how much community support there is for Blue. Thanks in advance!

I want to sign the petition to keep Blue free, as the Community Dog of Elephant Butte, New Mexico.
A society is judged by the way it treats its animals. Let's show the world that here in Sierra County, New Mexico, we treat all animals with kindness. Blue is the city of Elephant Butte's most aappropriate animal representative. He deserves to be made the official Elephant Butte Community Dog.

I can't imagine anyone wanting to confine Blue once they know his history. He has never bothered anyone for six years and all of the sudden he is a problem? One individual should not be able to dictate a change to what a community has found to be acceptable. People in Elephant Butte love Blue. They have contributed to his well being be it monetary, food, medical and legal. If he was such a threat why would so many contribute to his being taken care of? I can't see how it is acceptable for one to demand incarceration and if her demand is not met then she will put a bullet in him....go figure.

Sounds like Blue is a sweet, gentle guy that makes the community smile. Sounds to me like Blue is on private property so if you have a problem with him being there, just do go! He's not a stray, he's owned by everyone in the community that loves him! Save Blue....incarcerate the woman!!!

Some miserable people find they cannot intimidate those around them so they turn to animals who cannot defend themselves. It's a shame you cannot call her out and post her name so people are wary of her. I hope Blue is allowed to remain for the rest of his years in his happy surroundings and in peace as we all deserve to be.

When I first read this in the column, Humane Happenings, I was amazed at everything this dog has experienced in six short years, and the support from the community. Two of my three dogs are six years old, and I can't imagine them going through any of these experiences.
I can't imagine any rational, sane person threatening to kill such a gentle dog. Maybe law enforcement authorities or mental health care professionals need to evaluate her, for real public safety.

I am appalled at the actions of someone so inhumane. Please believe, there are places in hell for people like her. GOD's creatures need our love and compassion..

Having met Blue in person, it is unbelievable that anyone would want to do him harm. He is the perfect gentleman. It seems obvious that this lady has some problems that need looked into. Making threats against Blue is making threats against the people of the community who support him.

I hope I never have the misfortune of meeting the nasty, vicious woman that wants to put Blue away. What has he done to her? I only hope in the "afterlife" there is a very special place for folks like her!
Animals are pure unconditional love and do not judge us, but.....the way some members of our society treat them is abhorrent. I'm all for making Blue the official Elephant Butte Dog!

woww this dog was saving grace to my family and I we actualy go and visit this dog daily when we are here . This person who has said these bad things about this dog is defenently lieing we must speak from our hearts. Last cheistmas my 10 year old and 13 year old daughter. visited this dog after our family loss. This dog was all that ccomforted us. everyone was oh so very sad on christmas this dog cheered the whole family up it brought our family comfort that no one else could. we ended up spending about 3 hours just Blue and us that day, my two youngest cried and cried when we left to go back to colorado.
It makes me so angery that this woman says that this dog is viscious. Wow we had stoped at Blues gas station one day my 10 year old and 13 year old were petting Blue in the parking lot. there was some men that were fighting my youngest two were very shocked and started staring one of the men started coming towards them. Blue growled and protected them from this man. the children were able to get to safety in the vechicle. Due to Blue protecting them. Viscouious no that women could be no more wrong my 10 year old has huged this dog and kisssed him right on the nose, we have a viscious dog. Our dog dosent always like other dogs our dog has been together with blue and played and nothing ever happend Blue was never agressive or viscious.
Now that I live here we come and see Blue daily. we love Blue very much he is a very big part of our day. I ust admit one really cool thing about Blue that I have noticed Blue has a strong desire and need to be with lots of people lots of people when they come here to vissit miss their own dogs and Bllue is always there he is always so friendly and loving backI strongly feel he has alot to offer people and visitors in Elephant Butte. It would really make me angery and I feel that it would be a loose loose battle if we lost Blue. :( He is such a tremendous asset to Elephant Butte. Blue and his personality is one of a kind one that could never be replaced.

I have NEVER seen Blue attack any people or animals, and if I felt that there was a possiblity of this happening, Blue would not be on my property. If Blue has caused anyone problems, (other than approaching them for attention) then please feel free to come in and let us know. I have yet to hear or talked to anyone who has been "attacked" by this gentle dog.

I have "known" Blue for four of his six years. I have never met a sweeter, more mellow dog. He is very loving, and returns affection given to him many times over. He has many, many admirers as evidenced by the love and support that people give. I have never seen him display any sort of aggressive behavior and find it disturbing that anyone would accuse him of doing so. I look forward to seeing him when on my daily walks, and make special trips just to see him and bring him treats. He deserves to be allowed to continue to live his life as the much loved community dog of Elephant Butte.

Obviously this lady is not an animal lover. Maybe she should be pitied that she must have never had the unconditional love that a dog can give. They can be your light in the darkness of depression, your shoulder to cry on during sad times, your best buddy during the good times.

I really feel sorry for her that her life is so lacking in meaning that she has to focus her unhappy feelings on an animal that would give her love even when she hates him. She is really to be pitied.
Lets all say a prayer that she will come to understand the importance of Blue.

This poor person that has a problem Blue, should consider their life before condeming anything. It is apperent that they are not an animal lover as I am. If it had'nt been for Blue being where he is, the tough times I have endured in my life would not have been easy without a companion like him.Whoever this person that wants to harm him definialty needs to look at their life. Blue has always been a fixture in the city,as long as i've known him,(4 years), he is the sweetest, loveable, and most compasionate person you will ever meet.

Blue is love in it's finest. I
come just to see Blue , to give
him love and attention that he deserves. But I feel that he gives more back. It would make me so sad and cry if he wasn't there. I'm sure many others feel the same.I have known Blue for more than 6 yrs. and I have never seen any aggressive or bad behavior in Blue. People should be so kind as Blue. The women that made the complaint against Blue , or any one else should be prayed for.
Blue you are in my prayers always.
Love you
