This week, the Sierra County Humane Society wishes to acknowledge a very special individual who currently volunteers one day a week at Paws & Claws Thrift Shoppe: Glenn Parks. Glenn is a local, very active service oriented senior citizen who enjoys keeping busy. And Glenn stays busy indeed! When he is not selling office furniture at the local flea market, Glenn may just be handling the cash register at Paws & Claws Thrift Shoppe, a bargain hunter’s paradise located across the alley from Family Dollar in TorC.
P&C is a non-profit entity operated by the SCHS, Sierra County’s animal welfare organization. All the profits made at P&C return to the community in many ways, including through its service oriented programs such as the Spay-Neuter and Adopt-a-Classroom. Profits from P&C also help cover the operating costs of Desert Haven Animal Refuge, Sierra County’s no-kill domestic animal sanctuary.
A good humored and very pleasant people-person, Glenn started volunteering at the non-profit thrift shop over a year ago. For many months, he used his professional skills to test, repair whenever possible, and also display inside the store the electrical items and small appliances as well as some electronics that are routinely donated “as is” to our organization. When you shop at Paws & Claws, take time to say “hi” to this very special volunteer. These days, you will find him sitting behind the counter, as he operates the cash register and makes the shop’s customers feel welcome and appreciated for shopping there. Glenn’s positive attitude and friendliness are making him a real pleasure to work with and everyone on the team appreciates the time and energy that he gives to our animal welfare organization. Way to go, Glenn!
Our wish list is to be able to re-stock the food storage in Dog Town with canned dog food. Dog Town is currently home to an average of twenty resident canines and we routinely mix from four to five cans of dog food with plenty of dry food to feed our healthy and active little group every morning. If you value the work we do and wish to help in some way, consider dropping-off canned dog food at P&C Thrift Shoppe during business hours - Wed through Sat from 11AM to 4 PM. Your contribution is also welcomed at DHAR on Tuesday, when the sanctuary is open to visitors.
Volunteer opportunities are always available at Desert Haven and P&C Thrift Shoppe. Contact us as 575-894-1694 or 813-716-2033. E-mail us at weR4pets@gmail.com. Visit us at www.DesertHavenAnimalRefuge.com , www.Facebook.com/deserthaven. and www.Facebook.com/pawsnclawsthriftshoppe.
